The Short Biography of Charles Dickens (in English)

Charles (John Huffam) Dickens was born in Portsmouth in England on the7th of  February in 1812, in the family of a poor clerk John Dickens. He was the second child. Altogether there were 8 children in the family and six of them survived till adulthood.

The family was not always poor. On the contrary, they used to be well-to-do but couldn’t manage the money properly. Their carelessness led to debts. S

Herbert Wells was an English writer who was best known for his science fiction novels, including “The Time Machine,” “The Island of Dr. Moreau,” and “The Invisible Man.” Born in 1866, Wells was a prolific writer who produced a wide variety of works, including novels, short stories, and non-fiction.

Wells is considered one of the pioneers of the science fiction genre, and his work often explores themes of social and political commentary, as well as scientific and technological advancements. Many of his works have been adapted into films, television shows, and other media, and he has had a significant influence on the development of science fiction as a genre.

Wells was also involved in politics and social reform and was a vocal advocate for social justice and equality. He died in 1946 at the age of 79.

Jack London was born in 1876 in San Francisco. His real name was John Griffit. His father was a farmer. The family was extremely poor and the boy had to earn his living after school. He sold newspapers, worked at a factory. Later he became a sailor; during some time he wandered vrith the unemployed.For a year he attended the Oakland High school and spent a semester at the University of California, but as he had no money he had to stop his studies and went to work again.

This time it was a laundry. In 1897 he went to the Klondike as a gold miner. His first short story was published in 1898.

Some of the difficulties he met during the first years of his literary work are described in his novel "Martin Eden".

During the sixteen years of his literary career Jack London published about fifty books: short stories, novels and essays. In his best stories London described the severe life and struggle of people against nature.He died at the age of forty in 1916.

Oscar Wilde is a famous English writer of the 19th century, Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1854. His mother wrote poetry, and she taught him to love literature.

He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and Magdalen College, Oxford. Soon after leaving university his first volume of poetry, "Patience" was published.

Oscar Wilde married Constance Lloyd in 1884 and the couple had two sons. When the boys were children Wilde wrote fairy stories for them that were later published as "The Happy Prince and Other Tales" (1888).

Wildes tales are very beautiful.This was followed two years later by the novel, "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (1890) and a book on the role of the artist, "The Soul of Man under Socialism" (1891). Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol was born on March 31st, 1809. He was a Russian dramatist, novelist and short story writer.

Gogol was born in the Ukrainian Cossack village of Sorochyntsi, in Poltava Governorate of the Russian Empire. His mother was a descendant of Polish landowners. His father Vasily Gogol-Yanovsky, a descendant of Ukrainian Cossacks and who died when Gogol was 15 years old, wrote poetry in Ukrainian and Russian.

In 1820, Gogol went to a school of higher art in Nizhyn and remained there until 1828. It was there that he began writing.

His early works, such as Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka, were influenced by Ukrainian culture and folklore. The novel Taras Bulba(1835) and the play Marriage (1842), along with the short stories "Diary of a Madman", "The Tale of How Ivan Ivanovich Quarreled with Ivan Nikiforovich", "The Portrait" and "The Carriage", were his best-known works.

On March 4th, 1852 Gogol he took to bed, refused all food, and died in great pain.
